125. the end

April 16, 2013 by Simon Wallerstedt

Please read through this, I’ll keep it short. I recently built a new website, where I’ve published a small portrait portfolio. Check it out at simwallphoto.com. I’m currently working on more images to put up. I also added a blog section to the new site, and the plan is to start blogging over there in the near future. So this will be the last post on The Lifestream, as I’ve decided to end this blog. If you’re interested in following my […]

124. window light

March 24, 2013 by Simon Wallerstedt

Here’s a portrait of my grandfather. Shot using window light with a Canon 5D Mk II and a 100mm f/2 lens. I had Kristina hold the black side of a reflector behind him to get a clean background. I used an aperture of f/3.2 and shot really close to get this nice shallow depth of field, and bring the attention to his eyes.

123. new lens

March 17, 2013 by Simon Wallerstedt

I recently bought a new lens for my Canon 5D Mk II. It is the 100mm f/2.0, a wonderful portrait lens. I really like it so far. I chose between this one and the 85mm f/1.8. I think I could’ve gone with either one and be perfectly happy, but in the end I went for the 100mm.

121. off the grid

March 10, 2013 by Simon Wallerstedt

I have been off the grid for some time now. It’s been a month since my last post. So here’s finally something new! I’ve been photographing a lot of portraits lately. Experimenting a lot, both with the shooting and lighting, as well as the post-processing. At the moment I am working hard on building up a decent portfolio. Here is a fashion inspired portrait of my lovely Kristina. She’s always there to help me out when I want to try […]

119. rework

February 3, 2013 by Simon Wallerstedt

As I’m going through all my old photos, I occasionally find some pictures that I want to work on again with a fresh eye. This is one of them. I shot this image in August of 2011 with the Fuji X100. Back then I processed it in black and white, which actually suited it well as it’s a pretty busy photo. But as I started from scratch once again I decided I wanted it in color. I’m quite happy with […]

118. organizing photos

January 26, 2013 by Simon Wallerstedt

Right now I’m in the middle of organizing all my photos in Lightroom. Keywording, rating, labeling and stuff. Even deleting a lot of old photos. It’s a lot of work, as I have been very lazy about it in the past. But once I’m done with all the old stuff it’ll be much easier to quickly find what I’m looking for. I’ll also be more motivated to keep it up with the new stuff I shoot.

116. the beard

January 6, 2013 by Simon Wallerstedt

As I think I’ve said before, I’m really into portrait photography at the moment. Here’s a simple shot of my brother against a white background. For this I used a Canon 5D Mark II with a 50mm lens. The lighting is done with a Nikon SB-900 and a shoot-through umbrella.
